报告题目:Institutions and the genesis of urban growth in China

报告人: Professor Andrés Rodríguez-Pose, London School of Economics          报告时间:2017年11月2日(周四)上午10:00—12:00          报告地点:明德主楼729会议室          内容简介:A large percentage of China’s rapid growth over the last few decades is a consequence of the economic dynamism of its cities. Much of this dynamism has been attributed to factors related to location and accessibility, education, innovation, and agglomeration and density. There is, however, limited knowledge about how local institutions shape urban growth in China. This presentation addresses this gap in our knowledge, by looking at the extent to which institutions matter for urban economic growth in China and what is their role relative to more traditional factors driving the growth of Chinese cities. The results will highlight how urban growth in China not the result of a single factor and that urban institutions matter for economic growth in two ways. Directly, through better government quality and a more efficient fight against corruption. Indirectly, as criminality, which is not linked to urban growth, undermines the returns of human capital and innovation.          报告人简介:Andrés Rodríguez-Pose is a Professor of Economic Geography at the London School of Economics, where he was previously Head of the Department of Geography and Environment.
